The trio of European teams skyrocketed up the ranks after impressive showings at the last CS:GO Major.
The BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 marked the last Valve-sponsored event to be held in Global Offensive as the scene prepares for the switch to Counter-Strike 2 this summer. Vitality were crowned Major champions on home soil and Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut claimed the 15th MVP medal of his career after a straight-forward match against GamerLegion in the final.
Paris witnessed several high-profile upsets over the last two weeks as several top teams failed to claim victories over underdogs while the likes of Monte and Apeks made their mark at the Major by claiming spots in the playoffs. All of these results have been reflected in the latest HLTV rankings as the top 10 received a shake-up.
Vitality claimed the No. 1 spot in the rankings during the Major as the impact from HEROIC's results in late 2022 and early 2023 began to fade away while the French organization's run at the RMR and their win at IEM Rio were still fresh. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and company are now cemented in the top spot with 1000 points, more than 250 above the Danes in second place.
The most significant consequence of the Major, however, is GamerLegion's climb to the No. 7 spot in the rankings following a runners-up finish in Paris. It was an incredible run from Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek's men that began with a 0-2 start in the Challengers Stage and went on to include wins over 9INE, fnatic, Monte, and HEROIC. This is GamerLegion's highest-ever position in the HLTV rankings, 13 places higher than the peak they achieved in January 2023.
Apeks also secured a place in the top 10 after an impressive run to the semi-finals of the Major as the European mix eliminated Liquid in the first playoff round. That was the second time Martin "STYKO" Styk and company defeated the North American giants at the event, culminating a run that also included victories over Tim "nawwk" Jonasson's old team, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Bad News Eagles.
Monte also reached an all-time peak after a solid run in Paris. Mohammad "BOROS" Malhas and company's men proved their online form could be translated to LAN as they took down FURIA and fnatic before hammering Natus Vincere on their way to the playoffs. They are now ranked as the 10th-best team in the world, three places higher than their previous position.
Other notable changes include Astralis' fall to their lowest-ever rank at No. 25. The Danish organization failed to qualify for the Paris Major and has so far only played in online tournaments and qualifiers with their new roster. Their recent results include a second-place finish at Brazy Party behind Cloud9 and a failure to qualify for Gamers8 from the first qualifier after losing to Looking4Org.
MOUZ have also hit their lowest position in the rankings since July 2022 as they sit in the No. 18 spot following a dreadful 0-3 exit from the Major and a last-place elimination from IEM Rio.
Here's a full ranking table for May 22 with differences at the end relating to the May 8 update released just after the Major began.
